International Internships
Artlab hosted visiting intern from Finland...
Maija Korkalainen visited Artlab in 2006 on a three month internship as part
of her third year studies in International Business at Jyvaskyla Polytechnic, Finland. During her stay Maija developed her understanding of cultural industries and their development opportunities and refine her business analysis skills.
Maija's placement came at an opportune time for Artlab as we were developing business and strategic marketing plans including focusing on international and in particular, the Asia Pacific market.
For the benefit of those who would like to hear first hand about Artlab's International Internship program I asked Maija the following questions...
National Museum, Malaysia cultural and
study visit....
Artlab hosted visitors from Malaysia at the request of Dato' Dr. Adi Hj Taha, the Director General of the Department of Museums and Antiquities, National Museum of Malaysia. Zamrul Amri and Nirmala, curators from the museum's Conservation Centre, spent four weeks working with conservators and gaining an overview of practices in object, painting, paper, textile and preventive conservation.
Pictured below with Senior Administration Officer, Ian Page are from left to right: Mohamed Yusnizal, Zamrul Amri, Ian Page, Nirmala and Wan Nurul Balkis.

They learned much during their stay and felt well accepted; in their words like "part of the family". Zamrul and Nirmala both expressed the desire to return to Australia at some point and we wish them well as they share their experiences with colleagues in their home country....

Above, visiting Paintings Conservator Albert Lai from Hong Kong is pictured with left to right Sophie Parker, Anna Taddeo, Jo Dawe and Rita Bachmayer.
An overview of the program...
Artlab's international internship program, has proven to be a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas, technical expertise and culture, for its participants from China, France, Germany, Singapore, United Kingdom and Vietnam and Artlab as an organisation.
So far we have hosted final year and post graduate students, who have made a contribution to Artlab's work in the areas of paintings, objects and paper conservation, as well as arts marketing and cultural management.
Unfortunately due to financial and visa restrictions, we are unable to fund participants expenses. We can assist with information regarding suitable accommodation. The duration of internships is normally two to four weeks.
