Artlab Australia featured on ABC News Adelaide - Paolo Sebastian: X Exhibition 7 October 2017
Artlab Australia’s Kristin Phillips, Principal Conservator Textiles and Mary-Anne Gooden, Textiles Conservator worked on the preparation of the exquisite gowns for the Paolo Sebastian: X exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia for a number of weeks prior to the launch on 7 October 2017.
The detailed work the conservators managed, involved the preparation of twenty mannequins also assisted by Megan Sypek, Objects Conservator at Artlab who sewed the canvas covers for the mannequins; Kristin Phillips hand-made twenty sleeve inserts made of grin which she designed to ensure the sleeves of the gowns were beautifully presented and Kristin and Mary-Anne completed numerous, complex tasks behind the scenes to make sure the gowns were successfully displayed.
This was an exciting project for Artlab’s Textiles Conservators, Kristin and Mary-Anne and also another great opportunity to work with our colleagues at the Art Gallery of South Australia and especially, with the curator of this fabulous exhibition, Rebecca Evans, Curator of European and Australian Decorative Arts at the Art Gallery of South Australia. Paolo Sebastian: X exhibition is a wonderful display of contemporary fashion intermixed with classical and modern art. An exciting fusion of fashion meets art.
